Boulder House is the perfect base for all sorts of local activities. There is rugged walking in the immediate surroundings and serious mountaineering is only a short drive away. Maps of the area are provided in the house. The beautiful nearby beaches of Mellon Udrigle and Gruinard and a jetty close to the house present the opportunity for kayaking and water sports. For those interested in fishing there is also the sea and the lochs – permits can be obtained at the Post Office.
The area abounds in wildlife with otters, seals, dolphins, great northern divers, curlews, oyster catchers and eagles to be seen regularly.
Further along the road to the south, Gairloch is a larger settlement with several cafes and restaurants. “The Coast Coffe Company" on the pier serves excellent food as well as “The Steading” at the Gairloch Heritage Museum (and they also have wifi). There is a pretty 9 hole golf course in Gairloch next to a spectacular beach and from the Pier whale-watching expeditions operate in the summer months.
